Back Pack Buddies

The Back Pack Buddy program at First United Methodist Church of Montevallo is a compassionate outreach that supports students at Montevallo Elementary School who need extra nutritional assistance. At least once each month, members of the congregation gather to pack bags filled with healthy snacks to help supplement students’ food needs over weekends and school holidays. The food is supplied through a combination of church-funded purchases and generous donations from both church and community members. Packed bags are delivered weekly to the elementary school’s counseling program, where staff identify and distribute them to students who would benefit most from the additional support. The program is sustained through ongoing community involvement, and donations are always welcome, with an “item of the month” highlighted to help keep the pantry well stocked and responsive to current needs.
